Senior Bowl: South Practice – Day Two

Clive WarfordThe South team had a productive practice, considering that they lost four players to injury before this session. The attitude and intensity was high, despite a large dose of special teams and kicking unit work but it was definitely another great day at the Senior Bowl.

STOCK UP

QB Brian Bennett, Southeastern Louisiana: Bennett was the bell of the ball today, as he replaced Nick Marshall as the third quarterback on the South roster. Bennett is a former Oregon Duck that has mobility and a very consistent delivery, as the rangy passer does a great job of spinning the football as well as placing it in the short to intermediate area. After a solid showing in Mobile, there’s a very good chance that Bennett could sneak into the third day at some point in April.

TE Clive Warford, Miami: The fifth year senior actually did not play football during high school until the end of his prep career as a senior but you wouldn’t know it watching him haul in virtually everything headed his way. Warford locates the ball so quickly and shows off the ability to adjust his body as well as attack the ball at its highest point. He isn’t a traditional Y-End that will play both ways but he is no slouch in the running game and can be a functional blocker. It’s obvious that Miami can produce tight ends that are NFL worthy but it’s clear that Warford is another in a long line of Hurricane tight ends to have success at the next level.

WR Tyler Lockett, Kansas State: Lockett created separation regardless of matchup and consistently found the football on deep routes. Lockett has so much to offer an NFL team with his quick twitch abilities and understanding of all facets of the game. He is an ace kick returner, he can play inside or outside and he can win vs defensive backs in multiple ways. This is a plus athlete playing what is become an extremely important position in NFL offenses, as a slot man that can create after the catch and get open against multiple coverages.

OLB/DE Lynden Trail, Norfolk State: Trail has taken a ton of reps, mostly at standup linebacker, and has shown fluid movement to go along with his impressive length and athleticism. Trail was still able to show off his dominance as a pass rusher in drills but the coaching staff should give him more reps at end to show off what Trail can do with his hand in the dirt out of a three point stance. Regardless, the former Florida recruit has shown off rare athleticism at this event and he possesses tremendous upside as a Von Miller type with better coverage ability and length.

CB Imoane Claiborn, Northwestern State: Claiborne has not just made a name for himself in league circles but also among his fellow teammates in Mobile, as two of the receivers I’ve spoken with after two days have told me that their toughest competition has been “#28” and “Northwestern”. Well Northwestern State is for real and Claiborn came to play with outstanding positioning and footwork. He understands the boundaries and knows how to use them to wall off and run defensers out to the hash marks, utilizing the sideline as extra defense.
