Bryce Love recovering from ACL Surgery

Stanford running back Bryce Love had surgery last month to repair a torn right ACL, as initially reported by Yahoo Sports. Love said he suffered the injury during the fourth quarter of the Cardinal’s regular-season finale against Cal and had surgery Dec. 18. “I’m very grateful to Dr. [James] Andrews and his team for making the surgery a seamless process,” Love said in a statement to Yahoo Sports. “Obviously, there’s no such thing as an ideal injury, but I’m on the path to recovery, and my goal remains the same — getting drafted by an NFL team and being the ultimate professional. I’ll be back better than I’ve ever been.”

Love says he hopes to be ready for the NFL scouting combine in early March. Unfortunately, that’s less than three months removed from his December surgery and rushing his rehab at this point would be a huge mistake. It’s much more likely that Love will have to wait for his pro day and private workouts to test out for teams.

Bryce Love rushed for 2,118 yards and 19 touchdowns in 2017, but he opted to stay in school. Love was held to just 739 yards in 2018, as an ankle injury slowed him down all year. A Heisman Trophy Finalist, Love has now played his collegiate career is in the books and he’ll be at less than 100 percent for his predraft workouts.

While Love returned to school this year in hopes of winning the PAC-12 championship and a chance at getting in the College Football Playoff, he appears to have missed out on some real money in April. A case could be made that he would have been a second round pick last year but as of this writing, there’s a very good chance he might slip out of the Top-100 picks all together.
