Senior Bowl: North Practice – Day One

The north roster wrapped up a terrific day one in Mobile with a solid practice but it was impossible to catch all of the practice with the media night scheduled fifteen minutes directly after practice.

DT Larry Ogunjobi, Charlotte – Just an ideal body type for the defensive tackle position. He bends well, he has excellent thickness and he has strong hands to rock offensive linemen back in their tracks. Ogunjobi won a rep against Tyler Orlovsky on an inside rush, he beat another linemen on an interior rip and showed off what a terror he can be atainst opposing offenses. The 49ers program is still very new to division one but Ogunjobi was clearly one of those players that legitimized their team and kept their defense stout. He has clearly made money just by showing up.

TE Michael Roberts, Toledo – The big bodied tight end showed up and did exactly what he did at the East West Shrine Game. He balled out! Roberts has massive hands at 11⅝, he is a stout blocking option at 261 and his 6’4” plus height is ideal for the position. The MAC tight end got his Senior Bowl invite even before the shrine game but played the week in Florida as well, so he deserves a ton of credit for his honorability and his durability. The guy has done a lot to elevate his draft stock with how he’s performed today.

OG Dan Feeney, Indiana – The All American is more than likely the best guard here and potentially the first guard off the board come draft day. He didn’t win every rep here but showed off a strong anchor, violent hands and an understanding of how to use his naturally big body to his advantage. Feeney could potentially be a first round player due to his consistency and outright power. He won reps against Jaleel Johnson and Ryan Glasgow but did have a rough battle with Dawuane Smoot. On the whole Feeney looked solid but will definitely benefit from a productive day two.

DE Dawuane Smoot, Illinois – Smoot was beating people with ease today because of his terrific first step off the line and his bending ability off edge. He destroyed Taylor Moton with a rip and drive in their one on ones, he annihilated Adam Bisnowaty in another rep, he served Zach Banner in an edge one on one and also got the best of Dan Feeney in one rep. Smoot appears to not only have a great get off but he has a variety of pass rushing moves as well as the strength in his upper body to beat out strong guards.

DE Chris Wormley, Michigan – Wormley is just a big kid that is hard to get a handle on if you’re an offensive linemen. He can win with size as well as speed and his length is an asset against offensive linemen that don’t have the size or arm length to counteract his extension. Wormley didn’t have a dominant day but flashed in the reps that he won with his strength and ability to redirect offensive linemen. The expectations are high for a prospect like Wormley entering a big event like this but he’s certainly doing a good job of keeping his stock high.
