Senior Bowl: South Practice Day Three

The final practice of the Senior Bowl is in the books for all the teams and the even has been a success for many players in Mobile. The South team wrapped up a strong week with some very intriguing one on ones and two minute offense to finalize things before the game.

GREAT WEEK

OG Isaiah Wynn, Georgia – Probably the strongest guard here outside of Will Hernandez, Wynn exudes confidence and moves extremely well for a man his size. He has great feet, his hands are strong and he’s got a violent punch that makes tackles and ends think twice about flying into the pit. Wynn has a nice marriage to his back pedal and his hands, he bends well and he has experience against power five pass rushers. Wynn really elevated his stock during Senior Bowl week with his strength and his movement skills but finding out that he played the entire week injured shows what kind of toughness he brings to the table.

IMPRESSIVE

DE Marcus Davenport, Texas-San Antonio – Davenport hasn’t had the week I expected coming in but today he did some things at the end of practice that show just how long and imposing he is. He disrupted a Kurt Benkert pass, rushing off ede and batting Benkert’s throwing arm to cause a 500 jump ball straight in the air for a potential intercept. The guy is built like a condor with a ridiculous wingspan and prototype length to rush the passer and effect the pocket. He hasn’t had the strongest week and has certainly shown some weaknesses but his overall impact on this event has been felt. Davenport is a money maker here and teams are certainly going to dig deeper on him in the coming weeks ahead.

STOCK UP

OG Austin Corbett, Nevada – Corbett clearly got better as the week progressed and really did a good job of holding his ground, stoning defenders in their stance and giving up nothing to the opposition. He was able to knock Marcus Davenport on the ground in a one on one drill were Davenport gave up his chest nad Corbett made him pay the price. While the event has him listed as a center, he’s more than likely going to be playing as a guard for the team that drafts him and might be serviceable as a swing tackle but his future is along the interior because of his arm length. Corbett has done a lot to solidify his stock this week.

MVP OF THE WEEK

OLB Shaquem Griffin, Central Florida – I don’t think there’s a better story in all of football. Griffin lost his hand at the age of four but he is a player that believes firmly that “It’s not a disability until you make it one”. He has terrific get off as a situational pass rusher and his straight line speed is very respectable but what really separates him is his drive and motor. Griffin plays hard, he is an explosive athlete and he gets quality bend when he rushes the passer. While Griffin may not be selected in the first two days of the draft, he’s a player that will be highly regarded by coaches that want to get him in their camp as a basic illustration of heart, drive and determination.
