Duron Carter to NFL after CFL success.

Duron CarterDuron Carter, the son of Hall of Famer chris Carter, is attempting to parlay his recent successful two year stint in the Canadian Football League for a chance at finally realizing his NFL dream.

Duron Carter was once a highly touted prep prospect out of Ft. Lauderdale who has attended Ohio State, Alabama and Florida Atlantic as well as Coffeyville Community College but he was ruled academically ineligible several times and was suspended while at Alabama.

After going undrafted in the 2013 NFL Draft and undergoing a failed workout for the Minnesota Vikings, Carter was forced to seek another road to play the game he loves.

He signed a two-year contract with the Montreal Alouettes and had to start out his Canadian Football League career on the team’s practice squad.

In two brief seasons Carter racked up 124 receptions and 1,939 yards receiving that went for 12 touchdowns. His career average per catch is a staggering 15.6 yards and it appears that the NFL may have taken notice along with the rest of the world.

Alouettes general manager, Jim Popp said there is certain to be plenty of NFL suitors this off-season; “He’ll be a highly, highly sought after, Cam Wake kind of guy.” The front office man said before this last season where Carter ended up ranking third in the CFL in receiving yards.

More than 10 NFL teams are rumored to have interest in the 23 year old reclamation project but reportedly the three teams most interested are the San Francisco 49ers, the Indianapolis Colts and the Seattle Seahawks.

Duron Carter is a big bodied rangy receiver with kick returning experience as well as a new outlook on his playing career. He could be an ideal x receiver as a possession type that can get vertical as well as use his mismatches to win underneath, as a crosser and a deep threat.

Obviously the big hit would be landing with the Indianapolis Colts and Andrew Luck but the need for a big target in Seattle with Russell Wilson is certainly appealing for future seasons. San Francisco is littered with receivers around Colin Kaepernick but the question marks around the coaching staff remain disconcerting to say the least.

Our money is on the Colts offering him a futures deal, especially with Ryan Grigson’s experiences in Canada as both a player for the Argonauts and as a scout for the Roughriders. The Colts will likely be moving on from veteran Hakeem Nicks and possibly Reggie Wayne, as they go forward with their youth movement around TY Hilton and Donte Moncrief at the position.

Wherever Carter lands, it is a relief to see that mountain of talent geared up and pointed toward an NFL career. Clearly he is in a better place as both a player and a person. He will likely hold a pro-day sometime in January and hopefully land a gig that has been a long time coming.
